PARO
Paro is a valley town in Bhutan, west of the capital, Thimphu. It is the site of the country’s only international airport and is also known for the many sacred sites in the area. North of town, the Taktsang Palphug (Tiger’s Nest) monastery clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley. Northwest of here are the remains of a defensive fortress, Drukgyel Dzong, dating from the 17th century.

THIMPHU
Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, occupies a valley in the country’s western interior. In addition to being the government seat, the city is known for its Buddhist sites. The massive Tashichho Dzong is a fortified monastery and government palace with gold-leaf roofs. The Memorial Chorten, a whitewashed structure with a gold spire, is a revered Buddhist shrine dedicated to Bhutan’s third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.

PUNAKHA
Punakha is a town in the Himalayas of Bhutan. It’s known for the Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century fortress at the juncture of the Pho and Mo Chhu rivers. The fortress hosts the Punakha Tshechu, a religious festival featuring masked dances and music. In the surrounding Punakha Valley, temples include the fertility-focused Chimi Lhakhang and the hilltop Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, which has river and mountain views.

GANGTEY MONASTERY
The Gangteng Monastery, generally known as Gangtey Gonpa or Gangtey Monastery, is an important monastery of Nyingmapa school of Buddhism, the main seat of the Pema Lingpa tradition. located in the Wangdue Phodrang District in central Bhutan.

TAKSANG- TIGER NEST
Paro Taktsang (Dzongkha: also known as the Taktsang Palphug Monastery and the Tiger’s Nest),is a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and the temple complex is located in the cliffside of the upper Paro valley in Bhutan. A temple complex was first built in 1692, around the Taktsang Senge Samdup cave where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for three years, three months, three weeks, three days and three hours in the 8th century. Padmasambhava is credited with introducing Buddhism to Bhutan and is the tutelary deity of the country.

Itinerary

DAY 1: PARO TO THIMPHU

Arrival at Paro Airport, Our representative will receive you from Paro airport and drive you to Thimphu and hold the night. You will do the sightseeing’s from Buddha Dordenma (tallest statue of sitting Buddha). The other places of interest includes Simply Bhutan museum (which showcases the old traditional way of Bhutanese life) and weaving center (witness the authentic and traditional ways of Bhutanese weaving style).

DAY 2: THIMPHU SIGHTSEEING

You will do the sightseeing’s from Buddha Dordenma (Tallest statue of sitting Buddha). The other places of interest includes Simply Bhutan museum (which showcases the old traditional way of Bhutanese life) and will embark on a short nature hike to Tango Monastery. The journey will enable you to experience the scenic drive & explore the quaint villages in Northern Thimphu.

DAY 3: THIMPHU TO POBJIKA VALLEY

Today you have a very scenic drive from Thimphu to Phobjikha valley. The journey from Thimphu to Phobjikha will take you through beautiful hills and rivers and via the famous Dochula Pass which sits at the height of 3100m. On a clear sky day you can also spot a stunning panoramic view of the eastern Himalayan range. Phobjikha Valley is famous for its picturesque view and the Black necked crane (one of the rarest bird in the world). Once we reach the valley we will be visiting Gangtey monastery, Crane center and we’ll also be going for Gangtey Nature Trail Hike which is an ideal spot for birding.

DAY 4: POBJIKA VALLEY TO PUNAKHA

Today we drive back to Punakha valley which will roughly take us around 2.5 hours. Once you reach Punakha we will be visiting Chimmi Lhakhang also known as fertility temple and the phenomenal Punakha Dzong (fort) constructed back in 1637. People who are interested for white river rafting Punakha would be the ideal place. Charges are applicable and need to coordinate with your guide.

DAY 5: PUNAKHA - PARO

Today you drive to Paro via Thimphu (approx 3 and 1/2 hrs drive) on the way we will be visiting Tamcha Bridge (oldest iron bridge in the country) and also stop for river sightseeing to experience the pristine Himalayan River. Once in Paro we will be visiting Kichu Lhakhang (oldest temple in the country) and also Ta Dzong (national museum). After sightseeing you can visit Paro market which is very famous for handicraft items produced locally.

DAY 6: PARO SIGHTSEEING

Today you will visit the Ta Dzong (National Museum). We will also enjoy a traditional bamboo archery game (Bhutan’s National Game) and have a photo session in Bhutanese attire (Gho & Kira). In the late afternoon, you can visit Paro market which is very famous for handicraft items produced locally.

DAY 7: PARO TAKTSHANG - TIGER'S NEST

In the morning you will make a short drive to the base, leading to Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery). The monastery requires around 5-6 hour hike (both ways for an average walker). Tiger’s nest is Bhutan’s most iconic holy sites and is always the highlight of the Bhutan trip. In the evening, if interested you can go for Hot Stone Bath (Traditional way of taking bath in Bhutan *recommended*) which has medicinal benefits. It also helps you relax your muscles after a long hike (charges applicable and need to co-ordinate with your guide).

DAY 8: SEE OFF

Your journey to Bhutan will conclude today and your guide will see you off at Paro International airport.
